Dragon Lair UDK Graybox

Upon placing all of my assets within UDK, I found out that the room is a bit cramped. So my next step is to jump back into Maya to make sure that the player's have enough space to move around the room. Also, I need to build a basic ceiling and a couple more essential assets, that will require a bit more time and attention.

3D Start

 
I started basing out all of my assets for the greybox within Maya. I will be adjusting most of the hero pieces in Zbrush and created High Poly Models to then project normals onto the low poly.
 



Fixed Concept

I adjusted the concept to better fit the story. I am going to have to do some major work to get this finished in time.

Dragon Lair Concept

I decided to try my hand at a very saturated color scheme for this High Fantasy Hand Painted Scene. I think that when I am working in UDK the colors might have to be changed a bit or brought to more harmony. I had already completed the dragon eggs as a reddish orange, but once the painting was complete I am not sure if I am 100% on their color. This is a simple fix as I planned to adjust the egg texture before completing the concept.

Concepting

After a series of sketches I have finally decided on a direction for the Dragon's Lair/Treasure Room Scene that I will be creating within UDK. Below is the start of the concept, and I will be taking it to a completed painting to give the overall mood for the scene. I will update this post periodically to show my progress.

Dragon Egg Fixed

I did not like the green texture that I had on the dragon egg, so I decided to go back in and change the texture for it. I think this one came out a bit more interesting because of the extra depth that I put into it. I am still experimenting with the smoothing in UDK and I will have to figure out what texture sizes and poly count Fantasy/MMOs use. Once I find out this information I will build my entire scene around these rules.

Hand Painted Asset Test for Dragon's Lair

So I have decided to take on the challenge of creating a Fantasy Based scene using only hand painted assets. This will be my first time working with hand painted textures, and I think the project will come out very interesting. Below I have shown my process for creating one of the Dragon Eggs.
